BA Hons Design Studies
ANC in Horticulture – Garden and Landscape Design
Andy Moss studied design at Nottingham Trent University and qualified with a 2.1 Honours degree. The course covered all aspects of design, but ironically not landscape design. It did however leave him with an excellent understanding of the design process and crucially, the ability to analyse a design to see if it not only looks good, but whether or not it works.
Following 8 months travelling, he returned home and helped his parents landscape their garden. He enjoyed the entire process from design, through hard landscaping to plant selection and planting and thought “what a great way to make a living.” At this point he took a postgraduate course at the renowned Askham Bryan College, York. The course focussed on landscape and garden design with modules in practical skills, site surveying and plant knowledge. He graduated top of his class in 2006.
Whilst at college, he worked part time with a firm in York which did both garden maintenance and landscaping. He learnt just as much there as from college and is very grateful for their teaching and support. After college he worked full time with this firm for a further 18 months gaining experience and responsibility. In April 2008, he set up his very own business,Kerb Appeal. And it has been non stop ever since!
